MorningstarTherapeutics
Connecticut, USA · Founded 2026

Some mechanisms are not unproven. They are undelivered.

Morningstar develops therapeutics for neurodegenerative and rare disease where the biology is established but the route of administration is the obstacle. We work on the delivery problem first, because that is usually what stands between a mechanism and a medicine.

Areas of work
Autophagy

Clearance of misfolded protein aggregates

Induction of autophagy to clear the toxic protein species that accumulate in neurodegenerative disease. The mechanism is well characterized and has been carried into late-stage clinical testing. What has limited it is exposure at the target, not biology.

Preclinical. Work in Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, and hereditary and acquired ataxias.

505(b)(2)

Reformulation of approved compounds

Development of an approved compound in a delivery format suited to settings where the conventional route of administration is impractical or unavailable, advanced under the FDA's 505(b)(2) pathway.

Pre-IND filed with FDA.

Targeted delivery

Conjugate delivery of oligonucleotides

Directed delivery of small interfering RNA to skeletal muscle and the central nervous system, addressing the tissue-distribution problem that limits oligonucleotide therapeutics in neuromuscular disease.

Preclinical.

How we work

Morningstar is a virtual development company. We hold the intellectual property, set the study designs and interpret the data; every experiment is performed under contract by an organization selected for that capability. The structure is deliberate. It keeps spending on the science rather than on facilities, and it lets a small, accountable team run programs that would otherwise require an institution.

The company works with contract development and manufacturing organizations, contract research organizations and specialist neuropathology laboratories in the United States, and participates in federally funded research programs.

Leadership

Morningstar is a small team, and its principals are not named here. Full credentials, biographical sketches and references are provided directly to collaborators, contract organizations and funding bodies on request.

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Scientific direction · Regulatory strategy · Intellectual property

Trained as a bio-organic chemist, holding a doctorate in chemistry and a law degree. Founded and led a clinical-stage central nervous system company from 2018 to 2026, directing programs through Orphan Drug and Fast Track designations, IND acceptance, a multicenter platform trial and a registrational study. Has conducted randomized controlled studies in neurology and psychiatry and taken drug products through pre-IND and IND review.

Head of Chemistry, Manufacturing & Controls

Formulation · Analytical development · Stability · Manufacturing oversight

Approximately thirty years of formulation and CMC development, most of it converting chemically unstable molecules into controllable drug products. Previously Vice President of Pharmaceutical Development at a specialty pharmaceutical company, leading formulation development for a marketed parenteral product and named inventor on its ready-to-use formulation and impurity-control patents. Doctorate in pharmaceutics and parenteral technology.
